Step 1: Open the "Contacts" list on your Android phone.

How to Backup Contacts to SD Card
You can also backup the contacts in sd card too. It is better to have a backup in sd card too because when you are in the situation where you cannot connect to the network but you have lost all your contacts due to the trouble occurred to the phone at that time this is useful. To copy contacts from the phone to the sd card is also a very simple technique.
Follow this technique to copy contacts from the phone to sd card.
Step 1: Open the "Contacts" on your Android smartphone.
Step 2: You will find a menu button (it will be like 3 dots or lines ) tap on it and you will find some options in the menu.
Step 5: And all the contacts will be exported to the sd card as a file with the extension .vcf.
To copy the contacts in the sd card to the phone. Its very simple finds the .vcf file in the sd card and just tap on that file and all the contacts in the sd card will be copied to the phone.
